In the past, we tried various solutions to reduce the problem of smurfing in Dota 2 matches. These included SMS verification, introducing a paywall, requiring a Steam account with some playtime, numerous changes to the matchmaking algorithm, and more.
While these measures helped somewhat, they couldn’t completely stop smurfing and abuse of multiple accounts in your matches. Due to growing demand from players for a direct solution to trust issues, we’ve developed a radical approach — free account verification at will, providing unmatched security and creating a more trustworthy player community.

The verification process provides visibility to legitimate players and prevents fraudsters from manipulating the platform by pretending to be someone they are not.

Knowing what happens to your data is important. When you verify your account on FACEIT, your encrypted verification information is stored in Daon's European data centers.
In the FACEIT database we will only store information that you have been verified.
None of your identity verification data will be stored on FACEIT.
In the future, verification status will be required to access certain tournaments and parts of the Dota 2 competitive experience.
For example, players participating in official competitions, such as open qualifiers, may need to verify their account in order to compete.
Verification will be entered for some accounts to retain access to FACEIT.
This new level of verification will create a much higher barrier to entry, mitigating malicious behavior based on the consolidation of multiple data points in use, especially as it relates to boosting services and black markets in recent months.
